The Guenzel Gallery

The center of activity and the art-filled entry point for students, art appreciators and visitors to the Peninsula School of Art. Our year round exhibitions of professional artists' works underscore our workshop programming with themes that educate, transform and inspire.

Current Exhibition

The Art of Animation: April 14-July 14

Discover how stop motion animation, created with traditional artistic techniques, can be just as compelling as computer-generated films filled with special effects. Experience the award-winning works of artists sponsored by the National Film Board of Canada, with themes that range from whimsical to thought provoking. The works feature the full range of artistic disciplines such as painting, drawing, and sculpture, as well as the unique hands-on pin screen technique. Process pieces on loan from the artists will be on display to illustrate the creation of the works, which will be shown on flat screen monitors.

The featured animation artists are: Cordell Barker, Andrea Dorfman, Jacques Drouin, Amanda Forbis, Melanie Jackson, Belinda Oldford and Wendy Tilby. A special area of the gallery will show short films by emerging animators involved in the NFB Hothouse program. A 15min video about how the mentorship program works accompanies the “shorts.”
